It was a joy to meet together as Auckland Leaders last week on Thursday 9 June to discuss 'Developing Leaders in Contemporary Culture'.
Visiting speaker Dr Darrell Bock led the conversation, followed by a Q&A format. Two topics were explored: Community Life—How to Help Get People Back to Church; and Christian Sexuality—How to Help People Journey in Their Faith.
When sharing his thoughts on people coming back to church, Dr Bock said “check your community’s tone. Is it inviting to people who are coming back?”
His stories recounting how churches are dealing with cultures plural—not “just culture singular”, and this resonated with those who attended the event, noting the different cultures and influences in Auckland as New Zealand's most multi-cultural city.
Dr Bock emphasised connecting with people personally, taking the initiative in terms of hospitality and putting people, “back into connection outside of church through dinners in homes and visits to workplaces”.
Thanks to Hayden Johns and the team at Auckland Bible Church for their support in hosting the event.
