We're excited to introduce our new National Children and Families Ministry Enabler Julie McKinnon.
Julie has been involved in children and families ministry for over a decade, employed at Hillcrest Chapel in Waikato as Children's Ministries Coordinator for the past eight years. She is married to Jason and they have four daughters. We had a chat with her about what she's looking forward to in her new role:
"I didn't grow up in a Christian family, and my desire to give families what I never had as a child has fuelled my passion for children and families ministry.
Many parents are still learning how to disciple their children and heavily rely on churches--or children or family ministries--to disciple their kids, but that’s not the biblical model. I'm excited to spend time equipping and empowering parents to disciple their kids in the faith, to see future generations grow as strong women and men of God.
I'm also looking forward to providing support for people who are currently doing children and families ministry--both in paid and volunteer capacities.
I hope to see people in these roles encouraged and supported to serve well and not be overwhelmed. This sort of ministry can be isolating, especially if serving in a volunteer capacity, so I hope to encourage our movement's children and families leaders to get together, to learn, to talk about issues in a safe way and support each other.
My role exists to serve--I'll be available to chat and to support people in the area of children and families ministry, so please get in touch--I'd love to hear how CCCNZ can better support you in this way."
Julie will be working 3 days per week, and will be based in Waikato. She will be working closely with CCCNZ National Youth Enabler Murray Brown, and NZ Rally Facilitator Tony Foster.
