“Why wouldn’t we write about the very thing that changed our lives?”
When husband and wife team Aaron and Emma Falconer (The Orchard Church) began a songwriting project in 2014 they were motivated by their love for Jesus and their desire to focus on the life-changing gospel message.
“We headed to Dallas Theological Seminary in 2019 to gain a better grounding in God’s Word”. Their time in Texas led them to further develop the project and re-write many of the songs, resulting in Come and Know Me—a series of eight songs presenting the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The songs are interwoven with the reading of key Bible passages and are designed to “inspire Christians to reflectively praise God for his work of salvation, while offering an invitation to those who haven’t yet placed their faith in Christ.”
Aaron and Emma have partnered with different churches according to their needs—with the Come and Know Me presentation often leading naturally into Communion or a gospel-centred sermon.
Aaron and Emma say their time studying theology solidified their commitment to write theologically-sound and biblically-rich songs for the church in New Zealand. They’ve released a number of songs designed for congregations to sing together, with chords and lyrics available on their website.
Nelson Schonfeldt, Pastor at The Orchard Church, says their church family has been blessed by Aaron and Emma’s work:
“On average we’d probably sing at least one of their songs every service. It’s a blessing to sing relevant, contemporary, biblically-grounded songs written by Kiwi Christians.”
This is something the Falconers are passionate about:
“When rich truth is combined with good music, both the mind and heart can be engaged to appropriately praise and worship God. In our world that increasingly sees truth as subjective, there is an ever-present need for God’s unchanging Word to be shared as many ways as possible.”
