The elders at Emmett Street Community Church (Christchurch) meet monthly on Friday mornings at 7.30 am.
CCCNZ South Island Regional Enabler Tim Hodge writes:
“It was so encouraging joining them today. They are focused on together reaching their community of Shirley with the gospel, with many investigating Jesus, often through their Life Course.”
From left to right: Barry Cox, Andrew Bell, Andre Posthuma and Darryl Beardsley.
Life Course is an introduction to Jesus, written by Andre Posthuma for local context, and it runs over several weeks in small groups on Sunday nights.
Tim continues,
“They are working hard on understanding their locality (for example, 70-80% of land is council or government-owned) to take the unchanging gospel to a changing society. 'Church in Hard Places' is a book they are working through as an eldership; it comes from mission work by various local churches in areas of Scotland that have higher social deprivation.”
A visit to Scotland later this month by Andre and Andy is planned to learn from their example and apply back in Christchurch.
