Anyone who attended the recent Otago/Southland Regional Summit last month will recognise Simon Sim as he opened God's Word for us by preaching on Philippians chapter two to start off the day.
Simon works with Tertiary Students Christian Fellowship (TSCF) as Otago team leader, helping university students learn more about the Bible and grow in faith, and he is part of Cornerstone International Bible Church in Dunedin, along with his wife Rosie, and daughters Nadia and Danielle.
Simon grew up in a Christian family going to church (an Open Brethren church in Malaysia). He moved to Dunedin from Malaysia at age 18 to study.
He says, “University years were particularly significant for my own personal growth as a Christian and am grateful for the discipleship I experienced through TSCF, and that was a major reason for wanting to serve in full-time ministry with TSCF.”
Simon recently received a JH Baldwin Scholarship, kindly provided by Lichfield Lands, to help towards the cost of his theological studies, which until now he has been doing part-time, remotely with Regent College in Vancouver.
He is working on a MA in Christian Studies and is now exploring options to spend a few months in Canada to finish his studies so that he returns to New Zealand further equipped for gospel ministry with TSCF and the church for the long haul.
If you are serving in a CCCNZ Open Brethren Heritage church and would like to talk more about undertaking theological study at any level take a look at the scholarships options and chat to Liz Hodge, 3TRUSTS Scholarships Enabler.
