Last Friday Rutland Street Church hosted visiting speaker Dr Darrell Bock for a Canterbury region gathering of churches on cultural engagement, with 60 people in attendance.
Darryn George, elder from Bryndwr Chapel, said “Darrell gave us some good tips related to reaching the unchurch culture for Jesus and the gospel and he had good illustrations. What we took away was a better understanding of how we can build gospel conversations.”
For Geoff Stark, from Westchurch, the thing that came across was “that Christians are no longer like ‘the home team’ in our culture.” He said Darrell brought out from Ephesians 6:10 that while there is a spiritual battle, people are not the enemy but the goal, and from 1 Peter 3:15 the thing that defines our faith is hope.
On Sunday the Rutland Street Church elders and wives enjoyed dinner together with Darrell. For elder Lawson Scott it has been a huge blessing: “We covered all the thorny ministry issues in a causal setting, and it was a great time of discussion”.
If you like this kind of theological conversation, the CCCNZ Pastoral Theologians fellowship invites you to the inaugural Theology Workshop Gospel & Culture, to be held on Friday 28 June at Willow Park Christian Camp from 9am to 8pm. We have speakers from across our movement and Darrell is giving the keynote message.
