Three churches combined to run a First Training weekend for 16-18 year old developing leaders.
Riccarton Community Church (RCC), Rutland Street Church (RSC) and Halswell Community Church came together for a weekend of discipleship and leadership sessions and discussions.
A core part of the weekend was to teach and empower youth to spend time with the Lord one-on-one. Although many of the youth have been in church for years, they had not spent significant time alone with the Lord.
CCCNZ Youth and Young Adults Enabler Craig Barrow writes,
“Matt Meek from RCC led an amazing session on personal pitfalls in leadership. This was an exceptional session of openness and humility. Lance and Emma Robinson from RSC led a variety of sessions on how to hear from God, how to spend time with God, and some excellent introductory teaching on different personality types and how these can serve the Lord.”
Lance comments,
“I heard small group conversations of youth speaking with conviction as they set personal goals in their faith and shared what they had learnt about leadership. I saw young people walking off with their Bibles to spend time with God.
“It was so encouraging to hear youth sharing around the dinner table about how much they enjoyed their time on their own hearing from God through His Word.”
Matt says, “Building into the next generation of leaders is one of the most fruitful things we can do.”
Craig highlights the feedback from the youth at the end of the weekend where the majority commented on their realisation that God greatly wants to use them in his service.
