Today we received a letter from Werner Du Plessis, Ministry Development Team Leader at Tōtara Springs Christian Centre. Werner shared a beautiful testimony from The Amazing Race Family Camp. We would love to share a snippet of it:
“Among the participants was a mum whose story captures the essence of these transformative experiences—her journey at the family camp not only led to personal growth but also to finding a spiritual home at The Orchard Church in Te Puke.
“Battling agoraphobia, the thought of attending the camp stirred a whirlwind of emotions within her. The decision to step beyond the confines of her street, something she hadn't done for years, was monumental. Motivated by her children's excitement and the generous offer of a free camp spot, she embarked on a journey that would challenge her limits and reignite her spirit.
“From the thrilling rush of go-karts to the triumphant climb up the abseiling tower, each activity pushed her further out of her comfort zone, revealing strength she hadn't known. The adventure run, a muddy, exhilarating race, left her children with smiles that spoke volumes of their joy and newfound confidence.
“The Amazing Race theme resonated deeply, reminding all participants that life's journey is filled with obstacles and triumphs, fears and leaps of faith while called to keep our eyes on Jesus.
“Moved by the warmth and support of the Tōtara Springs community, and staff, the mum reached out with a request that spoke to her desire to continue her journey of faith and connection after camp.
“The Tōtara Springs team, understanding the profound impact of community and spiritual fellowship, connected her with The Orchard Church in Te Puke.
“This introduction was more than just a referral; it was an act of extending the family that began at camp, ensuring that the race didn't end at the camp's gates".
What an amazing story of how camping can introduce people to what it means to live life to the full following Jesus, and how a church-camp partnership makes a way for people to grow and be discipled in local church community.
