On Tuesday 31 October around 700 people attended the Light Party at Raleigh Street Christian Centre, about 450 of them were kids.
Jeremy Johnson, one of the organisers of the event, says:
"What was truly special was seeing many attendees who aren't part of our regular church community".
Jeremy continues, "One of our volunteers shared this encouraging story: 'Our neighbour came and loved it! She wanted to know if there was an open day at church! She wants to get her kids into church, we were able to say that every Sunday is an open day and she’s hopefully coming this week'".
Jeremy comments, “We viewed the event as a fun way to connect the dots between kids and families who don’t usually go to church events and introduce them to what’s on offer for families and kids, both at church and at kids’ camps in the region.
“In the take-home pack, we created a printed fridge magnet that promoted the various midweek and weekend activities for kids and families, as well as the website URLs of Tōtara Springs, Narrows Park and Finlay Park to promote holiday camps”.
Word of Life and the mentioned camps contributed with inflatable bouncy castles, games, and volunteers. Jeremy writes, “We couldn’t have run this event without their help”.
We love to see churches, regional campsites and support ministries working together to point people to Jesus, through the gospel from the Scriptures.
